About Me
I am originally from Kurseong, India and I live in the Swedish countryside with my family and two cats. I have a Bachelors degree in English Literature from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi, India and an additional two years in English and creative writing from the university of Lund, Sweden. Béyul Hidden Lands is the first book in my debut fantasy series. Prior to this, I have published a collection of short stories titled The Way We Are – Dark Tales from the Himalayas. I have also contributed in anthologies and e-zines. I am currently working on the second book of Béyul Hidden Lands.
I write stories about the places I grew up in. I write about people living in small, inconspicuous Himalayan towns, of the stories they grew up with. I write about the ghosts that haunt them, and about the escape they seek in the conjuring of fantastical tales.
The Himalayas
Under the snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga, tucked away between the roll and rise of these hills, lie remote and quaint little towns. Carefree lives lived happily, cheerful faces full of smiles, even to an odd stranger. Lives, if dug a little deeper, scraped a little harder on the surface, one might but catch the traces of a woebegone past and a testing present. Despite the hardships, those eyes are full of age-old warmth – as old as the hills themselves, and their hearts are full of stories both old and new, waiting to be told. Their homes filled with welcoming fervour, encouraging every lonesome wanderer to stop and rest their weary feet for a while, and to listen to one of their hypnotic tales while they rest. The wanderer then perhaps begins to dream of something more.
' What is your fate, little one? You are compelled to run away and hide even before you are born. Will the world be kind to you? Or is it already preparing to stab you on your back? '
